Frequently asked questions.
How do I access the Medicare rebate?
First you’ll need to go and see your GP. They will determine whether you are eligible for a Mental Health Care Plan under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative. If they deem it appropriate, your GP will write a referral and Mental Health Care plan to your chosen clinic. Please ensure that this is faxed or emailed to the clinic prior to your initial appointment so that your psychologist can familiarise themselves with your referral beforehand.
Following you have had your appointment and paid the fee, your psychologist will process your Medicare rebate for you. Please ensure that your current bank details are linked to your Medicare account to ensure a speedy processing of your rebate back into your account.
Your first GP referral is for up to 6 sessions. After these sessions are used, your psychologist will write a letter to your GP updating them of your progress. You will then need to meet with your GP to discuss your progress. Your GP can then refer you for additional sessions, totaling 10 claimable sessions in a calendar year.

You can expect this process to be done collaboratively with your psychologist to ensure that your are comfortable with the outcome and plan for treatment.
